THE IRREGULAR  POSTMAN PAT CHALLENGE

(A QUADRATHON EVENT)

This is a new adventure for the Irregulars and an event which is very different from the norm. On entering prior to the 2^nd of August you will be issued with a plan showing the location of “buried treasure”. The object of the event is to collect the names o

f as many pieces of treasure within the allocated cut-off time of 5.00 p.m. A participant can collect as many or as few pieces as they feel able to. In order to spice up the proceedings, everyone will initially be awarded points to reflect their age. The older you are, the more points you receive. This will create a level playing field with the younger fitter? entrants. Each hidden treasure will also be awarded a points value, that is, the more difficult to locate or farther from the start will attract a higher value. At the close of play the first three entrants with the highest points value will be awarded a small prize. Nobody loses however and all entrants will receive a memento. Further details will be issued when you enter the challenge in order to allow you to do your homework. This is a fun event to be enjoyed by all. A checkpoint will be centrally located so that sustenance can be collected to assist you in your endeavors.

Entry Fee:

£7.00 (£10.00 on day) (If you do not enter there is the possibility that you will not receive a memento)

Start/Finish Venue:

Marsden Parochial Hall (Grid Ref: SE 046116) adjacent to St. Bartholomews Church, Marsden.

Start Time:

08.30 a.m. – 11.00 a.m. (note cut off time however!)

Registration:

Open from 07.30 hrs.

Aim:

To collect as many pieces of treasure and boost your points total - or do your own thing! - it’s all for fun.

Refreshments:

Hot drinks and toast at start – full back-up at checkpoint with hot and cold drinks and snacks – light meal on completion.

Retirements:

Those participants who retire from the event must do so at a checkpoint.  Marshals have the right to withdraw participants if their fitness is in doubt or if they are behind schedule.

A Certificate & Badge:

These will be issued to all who complete any part of the event. A memento will also be awarded to all participants who pre-book. Runners are welcome.

Children under 16 accompanied by an adult are welcome and entry is free.

Location of Hall:

Take the A62 to Marsden from Huddersfield. From the M62, leave at Junction 22 and take the A672 to Denshaw, then the A6052 to Delph, then the A62 to Marsden.

This is the second of the 2008 Quadrathon Events. Completion of all four of the annual Irregular Walks will enable participants to purchase a superb commemorative badge. The events are the NEW HANGOVER (January) THE IRREGULAR POSTMAN PAT CHALLENGE (August), the BLACK BROOK (October) and the REGULAR IRREGULAR (December).
